These lectures are for my "Introduction to lattice gauge theory and
chiral symmetry" course at the School and Workshop 
"New Horizons in Lattice Field Theory" 
March 13 to 27, 2013 in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, at the IIP.

The course is based on various chapters from the review article 
"Confinement, chiral symmetry, and the lattice",
Acta Physica Slovaca 61, No.1, 1-127 (2011),
also available as arXiv:1103.3304.

Outline:

Lecture 1: An overview of the motivations and general idea of lattice
gauge theory. Chapters 1-6 of the above.

Lecture 2: Chiral symmetry and the three ways it is broken. Chapters 8-10.

Lecture 3: Lattice fermions. Chapters 3, 11, and 12.

Lecture 4: Chiral controversies. Chapters 7, 9, 10, and 13.
