Institute of Nuclear Theory

Final Announcement

RHIC'98 Summer Study will be held at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) from July 8-13, 1998. There will also be a one day workshop on High Density Matter in AGS, SPS and RHIC collisions on July 11, 1998.

This year's summer study will be a school for graduate students and young postdoctoral assistants, designed to provide a core curriculum on fundamental topics central to the experimental program at RHIC. This is the third in a continuing series of theory summer studies, designed to define and sharpen the focus of the physics program at RHIC.

RHIC'98 is sponsored jointly by the Nuclear Theory Group at BNL, the RIKEN-BNL Research Center, and the Institute for Nuclear Theory at the University of Washington. The one day workshop is sponsored by the RIKEN-BNL Research Center and the Nuclear Theory Group at BNL.

The curriculum for the summer study will consist of pedagogical lectures on the the following topics:

Lattice QCD at Finite Temperature F. Karsch (Bielefeld)
Hydrodynamics of Nuclear Collisions D. Rischke (RIKEN BNL R. C.)
Instantons in QCD T. Schaefer (INT, Seattle)
Hard Probes of Dense Matter X.-N. Wang (LBL)
Experimental Techniques in
Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions
W. Zajc (Columbia Univ.)

We would like to encourage you to distribute this announcement to all students and young postdocs who would benefit from participating in RHIC'98.

The summer study is to be held at Brookhaven National Laboratory, with local expenses, including on-site housing and per diem, provided for those enrolled in the school. Attendees requiring additional travel assistance should contact the organizers.

Please respond to this announcement by completing and submitting an application form via the WWW. The closing date for enrollment in the school and workshop is April 10, 1998. After this date, future mailings and postings to the WWW will be provided to those enrolled to keep them up to date on detailed arrangements for the program.

The workshop on July 11th, High Density Matter in AGS, SPS and RHIC collisions, will be a one day forum, focusing on what phenomenological models predict for the maximum energy density achievable in collisions at AGS, SPS and RHIC.

Speakers for the workshop include: S. Bass (Duke), D. Kharzeev (RIKEN BNL R.C.), J. Kapusta (Minnesota), K. Kinder-Geiger (BNL), R. Mattiello (NBI), C. Ogilvie (MIT), Y. Pang (Columbia & BNL), H. Sorge (SUNY Stony Brook), H. Stoecker (Frankfurt), J. Sandweiss (Yale), and S. Vance (Columbia Univ.)

We look forward to another very successful summer study focussed on preparing to interpret the first exciting results from RHIC, and to a truly interactive and educational program. We hope to see you there.
