Openings in the Brookhaven High Energy Theory Group

SCIENTIFIC STAFF POSITION -- Lattice Gauge Theory

The RIKEN BNL Research Center (RBRC) and the High Energy Theory (HET) group at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) announce the opening of a new joint position. The initial joint appointment is for a period of 5 years as a RIKEN BNL Fellow and as an Assistant Physicist in HET. We are seeking outstanding candidates with a Ph.D. and at least two years of post-doctoral experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a broad interest and expertise in lattice gauge theory applications of high energy physics.

Scientists with appropriate backgrounds who are interested in applying for this position should send an application, curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation, before February 15, 2008, preferably by email (aaponte@bnl.gov) to

    Dr. Amarjit Soni
    Group Leader for HET
    Physics Department
    Building 510A
    Brookhaven National Laboratory
    Upton, NY 11973
    USA

In addition, an application, curriculum vitae and the three letters of recommendation should also be sent by conventional mail to

    Dr. Nicholas Samios
    Director, RIKEN BNL Research Center
    Building 510A
    Brookhaven National Laboratory
    Upton, NY 11973
    USA

Infomation regarding the RBRC, the various theory groups and the multitudes of the experimental facilities and programs at BNL may be gleaned by visiting: http://thy.phy.bnl.gov In particular, note that BNL is the home of two QCDOC machines (peak ~10Tf each) and the "New York Blue" (Blue Gene/L ~ 100 Tf, peak).

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE OPENINGS:

1). Requires a Ph.D. in theoretical elementary particle physics. The High Energy Theory Group has this position available beginning October 1, 2008. The Group has active programs in electroweak physics, collider physics, neutrino-physics, B-physics, perturbative QCD, spin physics, lattice QCD and physics beyond the Standard Model. To apply, send, before January 1, 2008, a CV with a list of publications, and three letters of recommendation to Amber Aponte, High Energy Theory Group, Physics Department, Bldg. 510A, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY 11973-5000, (aaponte at bnl.gov) referring to Position No. FH 4777.

2). A second opening in the High Energy Theory Group is expected in lattice gauge theory supported by the DOE program in Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computation (SciDAC). Roughly half the effort of the successful candidate is expected to be in connection with developing the software infrastructure necessary for large-scale lattice gauge theory studies of Quantum Chromodynamics. The remainder of the effort may be devoted to other physics issues at the candidate's discretion. BNL is the home of two QCDOC machines (peak ~ 10 Tf) and the "New York Blue" (Blue Gene/L ~ 100 Tf, peak). Applications with three letters of recommendation should be sent before January 1, 2008 to Amber Aponte, High Energy Theory Group, Physics Department, Bldg. 510A, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY 11973-5000, (aaponte@bnl.gov). Persons applying for the position above will automatically be considered and thus need not send a second application.
